Components of Communication

The process of communication is a process of sending a message and receiving a feedback. Communication process is requires components of communication in order to complete the process. These components include the sender/speaker/transmitter, channel/media, message, receiver/listener/audience, and feedback. We are going to elaborate each component in the next paragraph.

Firstly, we are about to explain about the sender of the message. This component is also seen as the speaker/transmitter that sends the message to the receiver through a channel or media. Speaker is the source of the message that needs technical skills because of the message that is sent needs the receiver’s appreciation to provide the appropriate feedback. Moreover, as a sender, it requires enthusiasm and active stimulation in addition. The speaker/sender need to have target/goal/objective to complete the process. The speaker has to make an important decision on how to send the message so the receiver understands it.

Secondly, we are going to discuss on the channel/media. A toll is used to send a message. This is a matter of how the message is sent. Media/medium is utilized in encoding and decoding message. One or more channel may be used. A channel can be radio, television, e-mail, newsletters, phone or even a person.

The third component is message. The message is whatever that is being communicated. It can be transmitted intended or unintended. Moreover, this message can be verbal or even non verbal. The message may or may not be received appropriately by the receiver. To avoid any miscommunication, the speaker has to transmit the intended message cautiously.

Listener/receiver/audience is the fourth component of communication. Each message is filtered through the listeners’ frame of reference. Listeners’ frame of reference is the sum of total of their experience, goal, knowledge, attitudes and beliefs. The message and its diffusion must be personalized by the listeners to provide the definite response needed.

Feedback is the fifth component involved in communication. Feedback is the message conveyed by the listener to the speaker. The receiver becomes the transmitter and the transmitter becomes the receiver. It is a response by the listener to the speaker in the form of verbal and non verbal communication which can be immediate or delayed.
